Maker Faire is a place for people from all sorts of Making disciplines to meet up and connect. Where else would you find R2D2, metal workers, LEGO, steampunk, virtual reality, clay, crochet (the list goes on) in one place at the same time? It’s an opportunity to establish relationships that could lead to wonderful things…like a crocheted, steampunk C3PO? Or a virtual reality clay experience? Or a Dalek that makes cake?
The global Maker movement is full of passionate, skilled, creative, out-of-the-box thinkers and put-it-togetherers that make some truly wonderful things.
Being around Makers is an injection of inspiration. We hope that in amongst the wide range of talent and skilled Makers there will be a craft that speaks to you.
Maker Faire is like the best bag of mixed lollies from the corner store. All the elements of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths) are put together, shaken up and come out as an event that has a bit of everything! You’ll get lots of your favourites, some new things to try, and some that you give to your little brother or sister.
This is the first featured Maker Faire in New Zealand but even if you’re in the Kiwi Maker community you’ll still find new experiences, demonstrations and will meet new Makers.
If you’re not convinced yet of how awesome Maker Faire is, hear more about it from the original Maker, Dale Dougherty, founder of Maker Faire.
Maker Faire is a gathering of fascinating, curious people who enjoy learning and who love sharing what they can do. From engineers to artists to scientists to crafters, Maker Faire is a venue for these "makers" to show hobbies, experiments, projects.
We call it the Greatest Show (& Tell) on Earth - a family-friendly showcase of invention, creativity, and resourcefulness.
Glimpse the future and get inspired!
